My I-140 was filed during the July 07 fiasco....still pending EB3 category. So if I do decide to move on my employer cannot revoke my I-140?

Approximately the same. My lawyer filed paper based for me and I e-filed for my wife around the same time , they came within 1 weeks of each other ( don't remember which came first ) , the only thing is , for e-filed EADs, you have to go to the nearest USCIS office for a biometrics , while paper based EADs have the pictures with the application.

Employment contract/non-compete is the place to look. Now, if you haven't signed any employment contract with your employer (that says otherwise)- you are good to make that change.
My husband had only signed the offer letter, which did not talk about any employement contracts. There was a condition to pay some money if i left compnay before 1 year, which is not valid anymore for him.
So what you suggest what should be my bext step.

I think you can file an FOIA (freedom of information act) form to get copy of your 140 approval from USCIS. The only problem is that it will take some time to do that.
However, do it in any case. You will need that 140 approval later on, even for filing H1 transfer after your intial 6 years are gone.
Guys and gals: Please use all tactics possible and all negotiating powers possible to get copies of approvals from your employers for your file. Whether its 140 or H1, you should have copies of them. The copies are not employer's properties. The petitions are. A photocopy is a piece of paper that says something. If you have photocopy, doesnt mean you own that H1 or 140. Dont fall for this bullshit that "H1 and 140 are properties of the employer so we cant give it to you". BULLSHIT. If someone has a photocopy of the title of my car, does it mean that he owns that car?? NO. I still own it. Anyone can have a photocopy of it. In fact, DMV does have a copy of it. How 120 days calculated inclusive or exclusive?
As an example suppose it is written like: You cannot file for a renewal XYZ more than 10 days before your original XYZ expires.
If XYZ expires on Apr 25, 2008, then earliest filing date is Apr 15, 2008 or Apr 16, 2008.

I do not have the approval notice used to obtain a visa to enter the country for the very first time in 2001.

I don't have all the I-94s either. I do have the visa stamp on my passport.

Well, most of us July filers--including myself--are little stressed out due the Receipt Notice issues, but now I have learned how to live happy even at hard times. Here is how I imagine the NSC center works. A busy morning at NSC mail room.:)
Mail room Clerk: Good morning officer! Today's quota of I-485 Receipt Entry is 3000. In what order I have to pull the 3000 applications from the mound of applications?
Officer: Order? Are you out of your mind? Did you forget my instructions? Go to Rack # 10 and pull 1000 applications, and go to Rack # 15 and pull 1200 applications, and finally go to Rack # 21 and pull 700 applications. It will take just take 10 minutes. If you sort all these applications, it will take hours and hours. Try to be a smart man. OK?
Clerk: Yes sir, I will do it 10 minutes.
(Clerks completes the officier's instruction and comes back with the applications, but seems confused)
Clerk:Sir, it looks like we pulled only 2900 applications, but still we need 100 more.
Officer: What? How did it happend? OK. Let me think. Go to the 'Rejected Applications' rack and pull 100 applications, closing your eyes. It is important you close your eyes and pull the application. Understand?
Clerk: Yes, sir.
(The clerk gets the 100 applications from the 'Rejected Applications' rack)

What you are talking about is an automatic visa revalidation. You can re-enter the US from Canada on an expired visa if you have a valid I-94 and h1 extension. However, if you visa stamping is denied for any reason while being in Canada, you will NOT be able to re-enter anymore. Usually, the consular officer takes away your I94 or makes a note that a visa was not issued. At that point, you need a valid, unexpired visa to re-enter the US, or you have to go to your home country for visa stamping.

But I think we are just asking for acknowledgement for the contribution we have made when we were attending graduate programs in the US. It was a lot of over time and hard work with literally no payment other than money for room and board. Some may get their names attached to the paper that is published and get their Green Cards quicker for that. But some don't.

Without reentry permit, they cannot enter USA.
If you need reentry permit and if you are outside US, then you can kiss your gc goodbye. You must be in US to apply for reentry permit, otherwise it will be denied...Even the appeal will be denied...Then need to check with local US consulate...
